Elizabeth Driscoll Smith Awarded a Luce/ACLS Dissertation Fellowship in American Art

Ph.D. candidate Elizabeth Driscoll Smith has been awarded a 2023 Henry Luce Foundation/ACLS Dissertation Fellowship in American Art as an Ellen Holtzman Fellow. This year-length fellowship supports dissertation research, writing, and dissertation-related travel for her dissertation, “Build/Live/Work: Artist-Built Environments and the Expanded Vernacular in the Twentieth Century,” which examines four self-taught artists who built combination home and studio sites at the nexus of shifting regional constructs and major socio-political changes. This fellowship is made possible through the generous support of The Henry Luce Foundation.
