The University Art Museum is an important venue for contemporary, non-Western and historical exhibitions; the permanent collections, which include African, Pre-Columbian, old master paintings, prints and drawings, as well as contemporary art. The Museum provides invaluable hands-on experience for graduate students interested in museology. Recent and upcoming exhibitions being curated with graduate student collaboration include retrospective exhibitions of architect R.M. Schindler and landscape painter Fernand Lungren, and Microcosms, an exploration of relationship of objects and knowledge from the curiosity cabinet to cyberspace. The Architecture and Design Collection, located adjacent to the Department, is one of the largest in North America, and is a particularly rich resource for exhibitions and catalogues. |
