Diva Zumaya Receives an Association Art Museum Curators Travel Grant

Diva Zumaya, Ph.D. Candidate, was selected to receive a Travel Grant Fellowship for Emerging Curators from Pacific Standard Time: LA/:LA Exhibitions from the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) Foundation. This grant will allow her to attend the Association of Art Museum Curators & AAMC Foundation 17th Annual Conference and Meeting (Montréal, May 5 - 8, 2018). Diva was co-curator of Sacred Art in the Age of Contact (September 16 - December 8, 2017), which focused on the relationship between art and religion in both Chumash and Spanish traditions in the early Mission period, highlighting themes of devotion, sacred space, language and materiality. The exhibition investigated the mutually transformative interaction among these traditions, and will draw implications for the ways in which one can understand the cultural dynamics of Santa Barbara County today.
