Diva Zumaya and Maggie Bell, both Ph.D. Candidates, received a Humanities For All Project Grant from Cal Humanities to support the exhibition they are co-curating, Sacred Art in the Age of Contact: Chumash and Latin American Traditions in Santa Barbara. The exhibition includes 70 artifacts of Chumash art (some never before on display) and explores Spanish influence on Chumash works of religious art from the middle of the 18th century and will be complimented with lectures and programming to encourage public engagement with history. Sacred Art in the Age of Contact opens in September 2017 at both the Santa Barbara Historical Museum and the Art, Design & Architecture Museum, UC Santa Barbara, and is an official participant in the Getty's 2017 Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA initiative.
