Incoming Graduate Students The Department of the History of Art and Architecture offers financial support to outstanding applicants to the Graduate Program. Exceptional candidates are nominated by the Department for University Central Fellowships, which include Regents' Special Fellowships, Graduate Opportunity Fellowships, and those fellowships designed to encourage and enhance diversity on campus for qualified candidates. In addition, the Department offers its own Department Fellowships to outstanding applicants and supports research travel for Ph.D dissertations (both pre- and post- ABD) with revenues from the Margaret Mallory Endowment, other private foundations and contributions. Teaching Assistantships are the primary source of financial support and career experience for graduate students. Finally, the Department's students have an outstanding record of success in obtaining fellowship funding from sources outside the University once their graduate work has begun. Our graduate students have received national and international fellowships (see Recent awards), and many have obtained museum internships through the Department programs offered in conjuction with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Huntington, the UCSB Art Museum and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
