Constance Penley's research and teaching are in the areas of film history and theory, media studies, literary and rhetorical studies, cultural studies, feminist theory, science and technology studies, and contemporary art. She is the co-editor of Camera Obscura. Her books and edited collections include Close Encounters: Film, Feminist theory, and Science Fiction, 1991; Technoculture, 1991; and Male Trouble, 1992.
